Ranking Title Difficulty Explanation Description Picture
2
Very Easy わかば*ガール Wakaba speaks in keigo but this is the only difficulty, especially considering the episodes are just shorts. With this goal in mind, Wakaba begins the school year hoping to make her high school debut as a gyaru. Sugar sweet slice of life, probably one of the best example ever of cute girls doing cute things. Girl moves in to a new town, decides to work as a waitress in a cute café with other cute girls.
4
Very Easy しろくまカフェ It's very easy because all the dialogues are slow, use only basic grammar, and the topics are almost all about slice-of-life content. It revolves around two stories each episode, so the predictability of the narrative is very short with the beginning, middle, and end of a narrative in less than 15 minutes each. Situated near the local zoo and owned by the charismatic polar bear Shirokuma, Shirokuma Cafe is a popular spot for animals and humans alike, allowing them to sit back and relax after a hard day of work. Whether it's a cold beverage or the latest item on his menu, Shirokuma finds joy in being able to serve his customers, often striking up conversations about various subjects.
5
Very Easy 怪談レストラン Each episode is a collection of three or two short, simple ghost stories. Vocabulary is mostly basic, predominantly slice of life or schoold related. The only more challenging bit is the intro to episodes where each of the stories is briefly introduced as if it were a restaurant dish using some keigo. Each episode will consist of three stories or "dishes": the appetizer, the main dish, and dessert. The first two "dishes" will deal with an ordinary sixth-grade schoolgirl named Ako Ozara and the bizarre occurrences that befall her classmates. The third "dish" will be a standalone short ghost story told by Ako and her friends.

10
Easy 聲の形 Made it easier from the fact that they sometimes use their hands to communicate. It's a film so it's not too long either which helps. As a wild youth, elementary school student Shouya Ishida sought to beat boredom in the cruelest ways. When the deaf Shouko Nishimiya transfers into his class, Shouya and the rest of his class thoughtlessly bully her for fun. With a smirk, the mischievous middle school boy Nishikata glances over at Takagi, the girl seated next to him in class. "If you blush, you lose." That has been the unwritten rule set between the two ever since they encountered one another in middle school. Day after day, loss after loss, Nishikata strives to see Takagi red with embarrassment, but his futile attempts are only met by further ridicule.
13
Easy 女神のカフェテラス It's easy because all of the dialogues are simple, most of the words are very common, and the grammar is very basic. It's not very easy because sometimes the dialogue between the girls and the guy can overlap, becoming a fast-paced dialogue. I would definitely recommend it for beginners, but the speed of the dialogue is certainly higher than, say, Takagi San. After his grandmother Sachiko passes away, Hayato Kasukabe returns from Tokyo and inherits her cafe—Familia Café Terrace. He aims to demolish the cafe and convert it into a parking lot, only to discover that his grandmother had taken in five girls prior to her death. Surprised by his foolhardiness and pure resolve, the girl accepts his confession under a single condition: they can only be together if he marries her!
24
Easy Kanon Pretty simple, it's a standard dating sim adaptation. The plot becomes important in the latter part of the anime so it's slightly more difficult than general slice of life anime, but it's still easy. Now, Yuuichi returns, his memories of those days are simply gone. Settling into the wintry town, Yuuichi comes across several young girls, all of whom are connected to his past. 26
Easy WORKING!! Slice of life full of comedy so the vocabulary and grammar aren't too hard. There's very little plot until later on which means you can just enjoy the comedy without caring too much at first. Due to his love for small, cute things, Souta Takanashi cannot turn childlike Popura Taneshima down when she recruits him to work for Wagnaria, a family restaurant located in Hokkaido. Takanashi quickly learns he must stay on his toes once he meets his colleagues, including the katana-wielding Yachiyo Todoroki, the intimidating Jun Satou, the dangerously well-informed Hiroomi Souma, the adamantly lazy manager Kyouko Shirafuji, and the waitress Mahiru Inami who has a "painful" fear of men.
27
Easy まじもじるるも Pretty easy slice of life anime with a slight fantasy twist. The dialogues are easy and the plot isn't too important outside of the last few episodes. With girls avoiding Kouta like the plague, truly the young man's worst nightmare has come to fruition! One day in the school library, he stumbles upon a peculiar book said to possess the power to summon witches. Partly out of desperation, partly out of boredom, Kouta decides to play along with the joke of a book, until an apprentice witch going by the name of Rurumo Maji Mojiruka appears before him.
28
Easy バクマン。 Some manga terminology, the rest is pretty easy since it is a slice of life mostly. As a child, Moritaka Mashiro dreamt of becoming a mangaka. But when tragedy strikes, he gives up on his dream and spends his middle school days studying instead. One day, his classmate Akito Takagi notices the detailed drawings in Moritaka's notebook. 32
Easy コタローは一人暮らし Slice of life without too much complicated vocab, though the main character kotarou speaks weird might be a bit hard to get used to but it's not too bad. One day, manga author Shin Karino is greeted by four-year-old Kotarou Satou, his new next-door neighbor, who gifts him a box of tissues. In Karino's eyes, Kotarou is an odd kid: he speaks in an extremely formal manner, and he lives alone in his apartment—no parents or relatives in sight. But Kotarou neither seems to mind, nor wants to rely on people.
33
Easy ゲーマーズ! A lot of gamer slang is used, but the rest is fine. Keita Amano is a typical high school gamer living out an average student's life. One day, however, he has an unexpected meeting with the cutest girl in school that makes him want to disappear without a trace! She discovers that Amano is a gamer, and this newfound knowledge incites a passionate desire within her to recruit him into the game club. 34

Seeking to soothe the pain, he hires a rental girlfriend through an online app. His partner is Chizuru Mizuhara, who through her unparalleled beauty and cute demeanor, manages to gain Kazuya's affection.
35
Easy-Medium ヒナまつり Extremely funny with simple dialogues. The only difficulty is the slight yakuza slang from time to time. Other than that, decent especially since Hina speaks slowly in a calm voice. While reveling in the successful clinching of a prized vase for his collection, Yoshifumi Nitta, a yakuza member, is rudely interrupted when a large, peculiar capsule suddenly materializes and falls on his head. He opens the capsule to reveal a young, blue-haired girl, who doesn't divulge anything about herself but her name—Hina—and the fact that she possesses immense powers. ¨Faced with no other choice, Nitta finds himself becoming her caregiver.
36
Easy-Medium 四月は君の嘘 A lot of music words but other than that the conversations are pretty easy. Kousei Arima is a child prodigy known as the "Human Metronome" for playing the piano with precision and perfection. Guided by a strict mother and rigorous training, Kousei dominates every competition he enters, earning the admiration of his musical peers and praise from audiences. When his mother suddenly passes away, the subsequent trauma makes him unable to hear the sound of a piano, and he never takes the stage thereafter.
37
Easy-Medium はじめの一歩 THE FIGHTING! Main difficulty comes from the boxing terms but they are explained accordingly, so it's still decently easy. In his father's absence, teenager Ippo Makunouchi works hard to help his mother run her fishing boat rental business. Mamoru Takamura, an up-and-coming boxer, rescues Ippo from a violent after-school incident and takes him back to the Kamogawa Boxing Gym for recovery. Takamura is stunned by Ippo's powerful punches. As Ippo takes the first steps in his official boxing career, he faces off against a series of challenging opponents, each more powerful than the last.
38
Easy-Medium 日常 Overall not too hard, although some references can be hard to catch. Even if you don't understand anything you can usually get what's going on from the visuals. You can watch this without understanding anything and still have a good time. Extremely well (some would say over-) animated comedy anime about the daily lives of high school girls. Lots of surreal comedy.
39
Easy-Medium BNA ビーエヌエー It has some sci-fi/scientific explainations but other than that it is pretty pretty simple. Throughout history, humans have been at odds with Beastmen. After witnessing an explosion in the square of a Beastman city, Michiru Kagemori is confronted by Shirou Ogami, a seemingly indestructible wolf and sworn protector of all Beastmen. As they pursue the criminals behind the bombing, the two discover that Michiru is anything but an ordinary Beastman, and look to investigate her mysterious past and uncanny abilities.
40
Easy-Medium とらドラ! Mostly SoL/romance vocabulary. Nothing too hard to follow, though there is an underlying plot. Ryuuji Takasu is a gentle high school student with a love for housework; but in contrast to his kind nature, he has an intimidating face. On the other hand is Taiga Aisaka, a small, doll-like student, who is anything but a cute and fragile girl. Ryuuji discovers that Taiga has a crush on the popular vice president, Yuusaku Kitamura, who happens to be his best friend. But Ryuuji then reveals that he has a crush on Minori Kushieda, Taiga's best friend!
41
Easy-Medium だがしかし A few dagashi words but nothing too hard. Out in the countryside stands a sweet shop run by the Shikada family for nine generations: Shikada Dagashi, a small business selling traditional Japanese candy. However, despite his father's pleas, Kokonotsu Shikada, an aspiring manga artist, adamantly refuses to inherit the family business. However, this may start to change with the arrival of the eccentric Hotaru Shidare.
42
Easy-Medium 中二病でも恋がしたい! The only hard parts are when the characters go into chuunibyou mode. The rest of the dialogue is standard slice of life romcom stuff, so nothing too hard. If you want to understand everything, it's closer to medium. Everybody has had that stage in their life where they have thought themselves to be special, different from the masses of ordinary humans. They might go as far as seeing themselves capable of wielding mystical powers, or maybe even believe themselves to have descended from a fantasy realm. This "disease" is known as "chuunibyou" and is often the source of some of the most embarrassing moments of a person's life. For Yuuta Togashi, the scars that his chuunibyou has left behind are still fresh.
43
Easy-Medium 魔法少女まどかマギカ Deconstruction of the magical girl genre which means you get some fantasy vocabulary but nothing much, mostly mahou shoujo/witch stuff. It's not too hard but the plot is important so if you miss stuff you'll be confused. Madoka Kaname and Sayaka Miki are regular middle school girls with regular lives, but all that changes when they encounter Kyuubey, a cat-like magical familiar, and Homura Akemi, the new transfer student. Kyuubey offers them to grant any one of their wishes and in exchange, they will each become a magical girl, gaining enough power to fulfill their dreams. However, Homura Akemi, a magical girl herself, urges them not to accept the offer, stating that everything is not what it seems.
44
Easy-Medium 坂道のアポロン The vocabulary and sentence structures aren't very hard, although there is obviously some jazz terminology thrown in there. Introverted classical pianist and top student Kaoru Nishimi has just arrived in Kyushu for his first year of high school. Having constantly moved from place to place since his childhood, he abandons all hope of fitting in, preparing himself for another lonely, meaningless year. That is, until he encounters the notorious delinquent Sentarou Kawabuchi whose love of jazz inspires him to start playing with him.
45
Easy-Medium 斉木楠雄のΨ The characters can talk a bit fast but other than this should be fine. To the average person, psychic abilities might seem a blessing; for Kusuo Saiki, however, this could not be further from the truth. Gifted with a wide assortment of supernatural abilities ranging from telepathy to x-ray vision, he finds this so-called blessing to be nothing but a curse. As all the inconveniences his powers cause constantly pile up, all Kusuo aims for is an ordinary, hassle-free life—a life where ignorance is bliss.
46
Easy-Medium 鋼の錬金術師 FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST Has some military vocabulary here and there but overall it's fairly easy from a language perspective with fairly standard vocabulary and grammar otherwise. After a horrific alchemy experiment goes wrong in the Elric household, brothers Edward and Alphonse are left in a catastrophic new reality. Ignoring the alchemical principle banning human transmutation, the boys attempted to bring their recently deceased mother back to life. Instead, they suffered brutal personal loss: Alphonse's body disintegrated while Edward lost a leg and then sacrificed an arm to keep Alphonse's soul in the physical realm by binding it to a hulking suit of armor.
47
Easy-Medium ぼっちろっく! Mostly slice of life conversations, however there is some music terminology that are used and many jokes, some of which may be hard to understand. One day, skilled guitarist Hitori Gotou meets drummer Nijika and is invited to join "Kessoku Band". Together with the other two band members they create various songs and host many performances.
48
Easy-Medium 青春ブタ野郎はバニーガール先輩の夢を見ない The usual SoL vocabulary but with the addition of occasional quantum mechanics terms and concepts. The rare and inexplicable Puberty Syndrome is thought of as a myth. It is a rare disease which only affects teenagers, and its symptoms are so supernatural that hardly anyone recognizes it as a legitimate occurrence. However, high school student Sakuta Azusagawa knows from personal experience that it is very much real, and happens to be quite prevalent in his school.
49
Easy-Medium 無職転生 Nothing too difficult, standard fantasy setting with standard fantasy vocabulary. When a 34-year-old underachiever gets run over by a bus, his story doesn't end there. Reincarnated as an infant, Rudy will use newfound courage, friends, and magical abilities to embark on an epic adventure!
50
Easy-Medium Bartender The anime is episodical so even if you don't understand one episode, the next one is mostly not affected. Some cocktail terminology you need to pick up but the leisurely pace and mood make it easier. Hidden in the backstreets of the Ginza district is Eden Hall, a lone bar operated by Ryuu Sasakura, the prodigy bartender who is said to mix the most incredible cocktails anyone has ever tasted. However, not just anyone can find Eden Hall; rather, it is Eden Hall that must find you. Customers of varying backgrounds, each plagued with their own troubles, wander into this bar. Nevertheless, Ryuu always knows the ideal cocktail to console and guide each distraught soul.
51
Easy-Medium スラムダンク The main difficulty comes from the various basketball terms, but they are usually explained when they're introduced which makes it easier. The main character initially dislikes basketball but gets roped into it by his crush and soon learns to enjoy it.
52
Medium ノーゲームノーライフ Involves psychological battles where the ability to follow along is pivotal to the enjoyment. Some characters can also speak fairly quickly sometimes. That being said, there isn't too much to say specifically about the vocabulary and grammar being used as it's fairly standard. Sixteen sentient races inhabit Disboard, a world overseen by Tet, the One True God. The lowest of the sixteen—Imanity—consists of humans, a race with no affinity for magic. In a place where everything is decided through simple games, humankind seems to have no way out of their predicament—but the arrival of two outsiders poses a change.
53
Medium モンスター The difficulty varies from episode to episode, with some of them having a lot more medical jargon and philosophical terms. Dr. Kenzou Tenma, an elite neurosurgeon recently engaged to his hospital director's daughter, is well on his way to ascending the hospital hierarchy. While preparing to perform surgery on someone, he gets a call from the hospital director telling him to switch patients and instead perform life-saving brain surgery on a famous performer. Because of the switch, a poor immigrant worker is dead, causing Dr. Tenma to have a crisis of conscience.
54
Medium プロメア Sci-fi action anime film, has some challenging bits but overall is fairly normal. The Burnish are a group of humans with the ability to create bend fire to their will. Burnish first appeared 30 years ago, when an alternate dimension meshed with the one earth resides in. Sentient beings from the alternate dimension called Promare became trapped on Earth. The Promare has a desire to burn as that is how they thrive. They latch onto humans for hosts, and obey their host's will, creating those known as Burnish.
55
Medium 異世界薬局 The story is as straightforward as it gets with an isekai but be prepared not only for intermittent keigo and fantasy vocabulary befitting the setting but also (and most importantly) quite a lot of words related to (real-world) medicine, health conditions, illnesses, etc. World- class medical researcher Kanji Yakutani lost his little sister to a tumor years ago due to ineffective treatment. To honor her legacy, he has dedicated his research to developing new medications for such conditions. But as fate would have it, he overworks himself and passes away at the age of 31, only to be given a second chance at life in another world.
56
Medium てーきゅう Slice of life shitpost anime, episodes are super short so easy to digest. The story follows the everyday lives of four girls of the Kameido High School's tennis club. The series' focus is not really on tennis, but on the wacky and eccentric characters, with strange object associations and even stranger misconceptions, on their many random adventures.
57
Medium ヴィンランドサガ Harder than basic romcoms and the likes, but not too difficult either. Has some fantasy/historical vocabulary. Young Thorfinn grew up listening to the stories of old sailors that had traveled the ocean and reached the place of legend, Vinland. It's said to be warm and fertile, a place where there would be no need for fighting—not at all like the frozen village in Iceland where he was born, and certainly not like his current life as a mercenary. War is his home now. The war between England and the Danes grows worse with each passing year. Death has become commonplace.
58
Medium Serial Experiments Lain While the anime itself is hard to understand with a lot of symbolism, the actual speech isn't too hard for a good part of the anime. Some of the latter scenes can be a bit harder to understand, but the language used isn't too difficult. Lain receives a strange e-mail from a classmate of her who commited suicide last week. When she decides to open it, it leads her straight into the Wired, a virtual world of communication networks similar to what we know as the internet. With the boundaries between reality and cyberspace rapidly blurring, Lain is plunged into more surreal and bizarre events where identity, consciousness, and perception are concepts that take on new meanings.
59
Medium ハンター×ハンター The arcs themselves can vary a lot in difficulty, from easy-medium to medium-hard so medium seems decent as a difficulty marker. There's shonen lingo as well as general fantasy vocabulary. Hunters devote themselves to accomplishing hazardous tasks, all from traversing the world's uncharted territories to locating rare items and monsters. Before becoming a Hunter, one must pass the Hunter Examination—a high-risk selection process in which most applicants end up handicapped or worse, deceased. Believing that he will meet his father by becoming a Hunter, 12-year old Gon Freecs takes the first step to walk the same path.
60
Medium デスパレード The main character uses keigo and the subject matter is more complex than basic slice of life or romcom anime, but it is still not extremely difficult. While the plot is important, the various games are interesting on their own. After death, either Heaven or Hell awaits most humans. But for a select few, death brings them to Quindecim—a bar where only pairs of people who die at the same time can enter. Attending the bar is an enigmatic figure known as Decim, who also acts as the arbiter. He passes judgment on those who wind up at Quindecim by challenging them to a life-threatening game. These games determine if the patron's soul will reincarnate into a new life, or be sent into the void, never to be seen again.
61
Medium ピンポン THE ANIMATION While the vocabulary isn't too complicated, some characters speak in Chinese with Japanese subtitles and the dialogues can get a bit philosophical at times. Obviously there's some ping pong terminology, although ping pong isn't actually the main theme of this anime. Despite being polar opposites, Smile and Peco have been best friends since childhood. Although the overly confident Peco strives to be the best ping-pong player in the world, he often skips practice. Meanwhile, Smile cannot help but hold back his full strength when playing against others. But when these young athletes let their unbridled ambition go unchecked, the hardships they face paint a somber reality as they pursue glory.
62
Medium 地獄学園 One character speaks like a samurai, there is some wordplay and the characters can talk a bit fast at times. Overall not too hard, but not quite very easy either. Still, the comedy is so good that even if you don't fully understand what's going on you might like it nonetheless. Located on the outskirts of Tokyo, Hachimitsu Private Academy is a prestigious all-girls boarding school. Due to the revision of the school's most iconic policy, as boys are now able to enroll as well. Five boys are accepted but try to peep and get thrown into the school's prison with the sentence of an entire month as punishment. Thus begins the tale of the boys' harsh lives in Prison School, a righteous struggle that will ultimately test the bonds of friendship and perverted brotherhood.
63
Medium ブルーロック Some characters have their own speaking style where add things to the ends of their sentences or use slightly rarer words so it can be a touch harder to pick up on what they say. In 2018, the Japanese national team finished 16th in the FIFA World Cup. As a result, the Japan Football Association hires the football enigma Ego Jinpachi. His master plan to lead Japan to stardom is Blue Lock, a training regimen designed to create the world's greatest egotist striker. Yoichi Isagi, an unknown high school football player who is conflicted about his playing style, decides to join the program in order to become the best egotistical striker in the world.
64
Medium 闘牌伝説アカギ 闇に舞い降りた天才 Knowing Mahjong is an absolute requirement for this one or you will be completely lost. Other than this, medium difficulty. While mahjong is a game that is often played with family and friends, it is also a game that is played in the darkest corners of society. Nangou is a compulsive gambler who has accumulated debt over three million yen. In a last ditch attempt to clear his record, he decides to wager his life on a game of mahjong with the mafia. Unfortunately, as the game progresses, Nangou only moves further from the prize and closer to death.

Medium-Hard 逆境無頼カイジ Ultimate Survivor Just like above (it's the same author), this centers on mahjong with a strong focus on psychology. It is slightly more difficult though, because you need to pretty accurately understand the rules of each gamble in order to fully enjoy it and there is fairly uncommon vocabulary used by the narrator in Kaiji's particular style of writing. After one of his coworkers fails to repay a debt, apathetic bum Kaiji Itou is pressured by loan sharks to settle the large sum of cash. Since Kaiji has little money and no future prospects of his own, he is unable to return what his colleague borrowed. Faced with massive financial burdens, Kaiji is given an offer to board the illustrious Espoir—it is said that "one night aboard the ship, and all of your debts will be paid."

Medium-Hard 約束のネバーランド The grammar is very complicated sometimes, and the vocabulary is not that easy. However, the narrative is clear as water, and the dialogues are very well written. It seems like you're reading a novel only made with dialogues. With Violet, even if the vocabulary is sometimes abstract (because of the story), you can almost always keep understanding because of the clearly written dialogue. Surrounded by a forest and a gated entrance, the Grace Field House is inhabited by orphans happily living together as one big family, looked after by their "Mama," Isabella. Although they are required to take tests daily, the children are free to spend their time as they see fit, usually playing outside, as long as they do not venture too far from the orphanage. However, all good times must come to an end, as every few months, a child is adopted and sent to live with their new family, never to be heard from again.

Medium-Hard 新世紀エヴァンゲリオン The anime varies in difficult, in some episodes it is rather easy, towards the end it becomes pretty difficult with intricate dialogue discussing somewhat deep ideas. The mecha and technological terms can be a bit hard at first as well.

The rebuilds (movies for Evangelion) are roughly of the same difficulty.
Evangelion is set fifteen years after a worldwide cataclysm named Second Impact, particularly in the futuristic fortified city of Tokyo-3. The protagonist is Shinji Ikari, a teenage boy who is recruited by his father Gendo to the shadowy organization Nerv to pilot a giant bio-machine mecha named Evangelion into combat against beings known as Angels.

Medium-Hard ヱヴァンゲリヲン新劇場版: See above. Remake of the anime Evangelion, see above.

Medium-Hard 魔法科高校の劣等生 Miyuki speaks in very polite speech, lots of technical words, the magic system is very complete but also technological in nature and thus sometimes a bit hard to follow. The story takes place in an alternate history where magic exists and is polished through technology, and follows Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba, siblings who enroll into First High magic high school. While keeping their connections to the infamous Yotsuba clan secret, they attempt to live their daily life in peace, but Tatsuya is shunned for his apparent ineptness and Miyuki is validated for her magical abilities.

Hard さよなら絶望先生 Constant cultural references, tricky Japanese from time to time with a weird cast makes this one harder than your average anime. Nozomu Itoshiki is a high school teacher so pessimistic that even the smallest of misfortunes can send him into a pit of raging despair; some of these "catastrophes" even lead to suicide attempts. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is a satirical slice-of-life comedy set in the modern day, covering various aspects of Japanese life and culture through Nozomu and his interactions with his students.
71
Very Hard 範馬刃牙 SON OF OGRE The anime is full of phraseology, long dialogues that use words or vocabulary that are not commonly used. In addition, everything is pronounced quite quickly and if you do not hear it, you can miss the whole essence of the dialog or monologue. The mauling of a vicious, prehistoric-sized African elephant makes international headlines. Featured in reports of the aftermath, the sole survivor of one of the animal's rampages attributes its death to a lone, unarmed man—unknowingly describing Yuujirou Hanma, nicknamed the "Ogre" and often labeled as the "strongest creature on Earth." Elsewhere, Yuujirou's 18-year-old son Baki spars with an equally formidable beast: a praying mantis.

Very Hard 刀語 Edo- era vocabulary, complicated samurai imagery with episodes that are unusually long for anime. The plot is not exactly episodical but each episode usually focuses on a different sword with a lot of historical and samurai terms. Interesting and witty dialogue that tends to go on and on making it difficult to follow. In an Edo-era Japan lush with a variety of sword-fighting styles, Shichika Yasuri practices the most unique one: Kyotouryuu, a technique in which the user's own body is wielded as a blade. The enigmatic seventh head of the Kyotouryuu school, Shichika lives quietly in exile with his sister Nanami until one day—the wildly ambitious strategist Togame barges into their lives.

Very Hard 四畳半神話大系 Extremely fast-paced dialogues, constant references to literary works, obscure cultural references and philosophical considerations all dumped into one big pot. It's already difficult in English, so good luck in Japanese. Really good though. The Tatami Galaxy follows an unnamed third-year student at Kyoto University, using parallel universes as a plot device to explore how his life would have differed had he joined a particular student society (called a "circle" in Japan). The majority of the series' episodes follow the same basic structure: the protagonist joins a circle as a freshman, but is disillusioned when the activity does not lead to the idealized "rose-colored campus life" he dreamed of.

Very Hard 平家物語 Set in 12th century Japan and follows the Taira clan and Minamoto clan. All characters use old Japanese and archaic terms making it extremely hard to follow along without subtitles, and requires lots of experience and possibly some historical knowledge to be able to follow along with subtitles if you dont want to do a lot of lookups. This show isn't good immersion material for improving your language skills as its all archaic Japanese, but is a gold mine to mine kanji. The Taira clan, also known as the Heike, holds immense authority over Japan. When a young girl, gifted with an odd eye that allows her to see the future, foolishly disrespects the clan, her father pays the price of her crime with his life. In an era of rising military tension, the Heike are in the midst of a cunning struggle for power, and bloodstained war is on the horizon.
